Each school in BCPS supports safety for students with food and other anaphylactic allergies by:
- Staffing each school with a full time RN who is prepared to evaluate students for allergic reactions, respond according to medical orders and create individualized plans for students with severe food allergies to ensure their safety throughout the school day.
- Educating teachers and other school staff on recognition of possible anaphylactic reactions.
- Providing stock epinephrine for unexpected anaphylactic reactions.
- Providing an allergen-free table in the cafeteria as needed for students with food allergies.
- Providing detailed information on food allergens for food served through the BCPS Food Services Program.
