Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 - October 15, is an opportunity to celebrate our Hispanic students, families, staff members, and communities and to honor their contributions to the culture and success of our school system. We honor and appreciate that the diversity of our school system enhances the depth of our student learning.

In honor of BCPS Community School Facilitators Appreciation Week (Sept. 13-19), in a new blog post, meet the 2026 BCPS Community School Facilitator of the Year, LeeAnne Barnett of Milbrook Elementary School.

Congratulations to Alison Benkovic for being named one of seven finalists for 2026-2027 Maryland Teacher of the Year. Benkovic is a Grades 3-5 English Language Development teacher at Chadwick Elementary School and is BCPS Teacher of the Year.

Every Friday in September, which is Attendance Awareness Month, Team BCPS will host spirit days to elevate the importance of on-time, regular school attendance. Please join us in participating by wearing the colors or clothes designated for each Friday.

The magnet application process for the 2027-2028 school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 15. Interested families are invited to learn more about magnet programs at the Magnet Expo! on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at CCBC Essex. Application information meetings in English and other languages will be held this month.

In honor of National Arts in Education Week, September 13-19, BCPS presents its annual State of the Arts blog post. This year’s post highlights specific initiatives in Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts.
