Extended Day Learning Program (EDLP)

Program Description

The Extended Day Learning Program (EDLP) is a part-time program providing BCPS high school students access to over 20 BCPS high school courses using our FlexBlend instructional model for credit recovery or advancement.

The program meets on campus at one of five centralized locations outside of the traditional school day. Our courses are self-paced. EDLP offers rolling enrollment and courses may be started at any point in the school year.

Interested students work with their school counselors to determine if taking a course in the EDLP is a good fit for them.

With direct support from teachers, students in EDLP are expected to master course content with no less than 60% accuracy and must complete the entire course to earn credit.  To meet this standard, students work with highly qualified teachers to:

    • Set, track, and celebrate goals;
    • Create and use notes for each unit of study;
    • Engage in direct instruction on campus as needed;
    • Establish a schedule for work to be completed from any location with internet access between EDLP sessions;
    • Complete proctored pretests, unit tests, and final exams; and
    • Maintain a body of evidence of their learning.
  •

It takes an average student 180-hours or more to complete our self-paced coursesStudents typically finish in 1-2 semesters, depending on their literacy skills, readiness to engage in independent learning, commitment to attending face-to-face sessions to allow for reteaching and assessment proctoring, and commitment to working on course work in time beyond the regularly scheduled face-to-face sessions on a BCPS campus.

Transportation to an EDLP site is the responsibility of a student’s parent/guardian. Each site is located within walking distance to an MTA bus lineParents/guardians should consider transportation needs when identifying EDLP as part of their student’s educational plan.
