Advanced 5 Mathematics Content
The Baltimore County Public Schools Advanced 5 Mathematics program is designed so that each student has access to rigorous instruction, uses problem solving to examine the world around them, and engages in the habits of mind of proficient mathematical thinkers.
In Advanced 5 Mathematics, instructional time focuses on (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships including unit rates and percent; (2) extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers, developing understanding of operations with rational numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and linear equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

Advanced 5 Mathematics Curriculum
|
Advanced 5 Mathematics students use the Illustrative Mathematics text, which is designed to spark discussion, perseverance, and the enjoyment of mathematics. Students learn through a problem-based learning cycle. You can read more about the design principles and supports provided for Illustrative Mathematics in their Information for Families.
