Umbrellas Registered to Oversee Home Instruction
Parents/guardians who homeschool are not required to have portfolio reviews with BCPS if they register with a nonpublic entity that is registered with the Maryland State Department of Education (Option B for Required Supervision of Home Instruction Program on the Home Schooling Notification Form).
These organizations are also referred to as "umbrellas." They are privately operated and range in their services and requirements. Per Maryland regulation, umbrellas provide BCPS with annual enrollment reports and notify the school system when the student's homeschooling status changes.
